Life update!

Posted on November 14th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Sheryl

Ok so time for an update!

I’ll start with school. Surprisingly, all of my classes are going well, even biochem. I love my Heros and Warriors teacher and the class in general, so I’ll be taking the King Arthur class with him next semester. My sociology class is ok, not as interesting as it had been because now it’s basically people doing presentations for extra credit every class. But, my professor is a social worker/marriage counselor and he tells us different cases he’s had every class, which I find really fascinating. My history class is boring, mainly because my teacher just reads from her notes like they are a textbook. But the content is interesting so that’s good. Biochem is tough and a lot of work, but so far so good! We’ll have to see how the next test and final go. Next test is pure memorization and final is cumulative =/ And finally, intro to social work is amazing. The class is so tiny (6 total but only 4 of us show up usually) and we have a lot of discussion, which I love.

As for outside of school stuff, I quit my job at the vet. I hated it and now I’m much happier and have so much more time! I also started volunteering in the pediatric oncology unit at the cancer center. I absolutely love it. I spend most of the time just playing with the kids, but I also spend some time talking to them and their siblings about what is going on with their illnesses. Sort of like a mini support group. It’s probably one of the best parts of my week.

And finally, vet school apps are all in and done, although I’m 99% sure that’s not what I want to do anymore. I do have an interview with Ross University, which I only applied to in order to make the vet I worked for happy, but I figured it will be a good learning experience to go, and seeing as how I paid for the application, I might as well take the time to get accepted.

That’s all for now! Heading to Dustin’s today so there will most likely be a post on that coming soon :)

Gears of War 2

Posted on November 13th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Dustin

So far pretty damn fun, I think I am on chapter 5 on normal difficulty (will play insane later with a friend co op)

I am bad at multiplayer but it is entertaining at the least

thats really all i want to say about it!

its more or less gow1 with better graphics, better story and better everything over all

I still find the multiplayer slow and not as fun as something like tf2 back when i didnt play 300 hrs of tf2 =)

oh no ze zombies

Posted on November 6th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Dustin

left 4 dead demo is playable at 2 am PST so I wont play it until 10 am when i wake up :D

but zombies + just waking up = disaster probably

FIFA has become playing 10 or 15 min 1/2s on world class with the slow game setting and is still very enjoyable and challenging if you change tactics to be defensive (ie they dont sit up at the 1/2 way line and wait for you to launch balls over their head)

Last Weekend!

Posted on November 5th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Sheryl

Yay so I visited again last weekend. It was busy but a lot of fun!

Friday I went into the city and we fifa’ed for a bit. I apparently lost all of my skills because I’m horrible again! Dustin’s still amazing at it though, so that was good! For dinner we made these meatloaf muffin things and mac and cheese, which I think just may be our favorite meal! It actually tastes really really good.

Then Saturday Dustin’s dad took us to Dinosaur BBQ for lunch. That food was amazing. I got the same thing as the first time we went, but they switched up the potato salad this time, and that was delicious. Then we got dropped off on 44th street and went to go see Phantom of the Opera! It was good but we were pretty much confused on most of the second half. We looked it up on Wikipedia later though so now it makes sense! We also spent a lot of time that day walking around the area picking up the books from the plays we’d seen (because I wanted them) and looking for 3 different Disney stores so Dustin could get a present. After about 2 hours we gave up since apparently they have all closed in that area! We got our exercise though so that was good :)

Oh we also saw Kung Fu Panda. Very cute movie. I totally recommend it.

Then Sunday, since we changed back the clocks, Dustin and I went to McDonalds for a celebratory Change Back the Clocks Breakfast! We got sausage egg mcmuffins and hash browns, which were sooo good! It was a very good use of our extra hour!

That is all for now!

Highlights Part 2!

Posted on November 5th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Sheryl

Ok so the next set of highlights are for when I visited Dustin 2 weeks in a row!

The first weekend, we ended up going to Yonkers Friday night so Dustin could go to his doctor and get some stuff signed for school. That was a lot of fun cause I got to see where he grew up and went to school. Then we met up with Justin for dinner at Ihop!!! That was a lot of fun cause we haven’t seen Justin since August, so there was a lot of chatting and joking.

Saturday we went and saw Spamalot, which Dustin mentioned in an earlier post. It was hilarious. I absolutely loved it. But next time (if it’s before January since apparently it’s closing in Jan) we have to get the front row seat cause that person gets to go up on stage and gets an award!!! Very cool. Then we went to the Nintendo store. I got a yoshi stuffed animal :) He’s cute.

Then Sunday we just went grocery shopping and I went back to Stony.

The second weekend was just a standard weekend. Went into the city Friday and left Sunday. On Saturday I went to Columbia’s School of Social Work open house. They make it seem very easy to get in, and the program sounds great, so that was very promising!

im not yet dead

i can do the… !

for anyone who knows the song ;)

I have had a midterm, a take home midterm and a paper due so I have been quite busy.

Also Fifa09 is the best game ever ! Took leeds united back up to the top using a 4-1-2-3 formation as I was sick of 4-4-2s and much expermimentation with 4-3-3, 4-5-1 formations and the sort I like that the best using a decent amount of shots and crosses.

anyways more on fifa later perhaps

Highlights!

Posted on October 24th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Sheryl

Haven’t written about weekends with Dustin since the very first one, and there have been quite a few since! We’ve done fun stuff pretty much every time so I’ll give just the highlights of them!

Friday 26th - We went to Chinatown for dinner and had the most amazing shrimp and walnut dish. It was soooooooo good! I believe we also had a beef dish and another dish I don’t remember at the moment, though I do have pictures of it :)

Sat 27th - We went to this bar kind of place called Dinosaur BBQ. The food was really really good and they gave us just the right amount. We left completely stuffed but didn’t have anything to bring home. We’d tried to go here the night before but it was so packed people were waiting outside.

Sun 28th - I came home from the city only to go back again after biochem the next morning!

Mon 29 - Dustin had a colloquium at his school that he wanted to attend, so after dinner, we headed over to that. When we first got there, we thought this jock type guy was gonna beat us up because he kept staring at us and giving us dirty looks as though we were in his seat. He even told someone they couldn’t sit next to us because he was saving the seat but then when it came time for the presentation to start, he went over to his stuff which was far from where we were. odd. Anyway, colloquium was pretty cool! The lecturer was pretty funny and kept even me interested.

Tues 27th - I went to Dustin’s psychology class with him and then to the library while he was in his second class. The psych class was pretty fun. We watched videos of little kids doing math! They were adorable. Then we went and had the yummiest pizza ever for dinner. It was really really good. After that Dustin went to his second class and I checked out the library and finally settled into the Everett Lounge to do my work.

Wed 28th - Dustin had class again that night so while he was in class, I did some work in the Everett Lounge again. I really liked it in there although it was freezing!! They had the windows wide open and I didn’t feel right shutting them, so I just sat with my jacket on. Then after class we met up with Dustin’s roommate Brian and went to this little cafe for dinner. They got burgers but I got a waffle. It was great! Then that night I caught a train back to Stony.

Funeral Attending

Posted on October 18th, 2008 in Miscellaneous by Dustin

An Uncle of mine passed away last week and I went to the wake today

It was quite sad as it was the first person I actually knew to die, my grandparents I did not know well. The saddest part was his grandkids who lived with him for a few years and are still 5 and 3 and in tears the whole time.

The weather was freezing and i walked about 7 blocks to take a train back up here :(

That is all!

My memory fails me !
